I wanted to flag a small content review project that’s getting underway and invite input from the wider community.
Background
A recent content request identified that the synonym “Protein malnutrition” is inappropriately attached to 58262005 |Kwashiorkor (disorder)|. In looking into this, we found that the broader hierarchy under 238107002 |Deficiency of macronutrients (disorder)| has a few similar issues — some out-of-date terminology and a handful of synonyms that seem misallocated. This is now a small project on the Nutrition and Dietetics CRG work plan.
Note: this review is limited to descriptions, synonyms, and appropriateness of the current parent concepts. Broader remodelling (e.g. new defining attributes) is out of scope for now, pending the related 129453003 |Deficiency of (attribute)| proposal, which has been endorsed and is moving to implementation — we’ll coordinate with that work separately.
What’s happening
The Nutrition and Dietetics CRG will be reviewing all 21 concepts in this hierarchy (the root concept plus its full set of descendants) over the coming weeks, looking at:
- Whether descriptions/synonyms are correctly and appropriately attached
- Whether the FSNs and terminology reflect current clinical usage
- Whether any descriptions need updating, adding, or inactivating
- Whether the parent concept(s) for each concept are appropriate
The attached PDF lists all 21 concepts with their parent concept(s), current descriptions, definition status, and creation date.

If you work with malnutrition/undernutrition concepts in your national extension or use case — or if you’ve previously raised issues with this hierarchy — we’d really value your thoughts before or alongside the CRG’s review.
