Radiology Content Working Group Meeting #2 notes

2. Dr. Nick Ferris was chosen as the Co-chair.
3. Presentation of the purpose of this Content Project Group, imaging procedures being most used clinical domain, and standard codes are important, and many countries have been working on this for their local SNOMED content.
Discussion on whether to start with parallel or sequential work between local content promotion or proceed with gap analysis first for the terms that are absent in SNOMED today. Cons of parallel path are that it would be faster and more will be done in short period of time and cons of sequential path is that there will be opportunity for everybody to participate in everything. There was a unanimous agreement to adopt the sequential path .
Monica suggested from experience to start with big groups first and then divide depending on the need. The group should start by looking into the respective national content and then divide the work into harmonizing as everything may not be relevant for all. Scan national extensions & wor k.
James- suggested a kick-off for content promotion as that willeven erase risk of double content requirement reque st.
Anna- option B, more interested in CT and M RI.
Monica Harry- forums use spread sheets to accumulate material, Maria being responsible for spread sheets. Country with oldest effective time get the opportunity to promote it to SNOMED internatio nal .
Andrew Perry- option B as the starting point as of now. There are currently 2500 concepts on lateralized procedures, and they are potentially awaiting to be promoted to SNOMED internat ional.
4. What is the process of content pro motion?
Maria- Description of promotion of content- there is no limit on the number of promotion of concepts per country in CRS as this is content from a Project Group. It will be done as a one-go promotion. (Förslag- Once the consolidation from all the different extensions on the different modalities have been done and submitted to the group for harmonization, all content to be promoted should be submitted as one spread sheet to SNOMED International. SNOMED International will then …a, b, c, ..)
One Group in one spread sheet and find duplications. Working on harmonization which content will be getting promoted. Group together contents, one consolidated, each country’s content is identified with thei r needs .

5. Authors for this group- Maria is currently an author in lateralizing radiology content for the Content Management Advisory Group but will be the reviewer for this Radiology Content Working Group.
2 xternal authors (Emma H and Keng Ling W) from Sweden with Authoring Level 2 certification (which is the requirement) will be involved as authors in this project. Multiple authors, not more than 2 are not advised from previous work done as it will lead to complications and dispute. Therefore, a limit of a maximum of 2 authors for consistency and 1 reviewer is recommended.
6. Which modalities shoul d we start with?
Julius- has done a lot of modelling work, highlighted the need to model procedures- to organize information exchange between different systems. 400 radiology methods used in radiology today. Procedure-how (methods) and what (anatomy) mapped well with SNOMED CT but not methods. Another issue that was mentioned was the need for po st-coordination.
Anna- start with the modality which is least complicated an d of low numbers .
Monica- take as much as it is now.
7. Discussion about timeline and discussion about future meetings-
Decision- Biweekly meetings on Thursdays. Time- 13:00 -14:30 CET- 90 mins.
Start date- 3 rd September 2026.
(An additional point: There was a question if the group will meet at the coming SNOMED International Business meeting in Oct 2026 in Sydney Australia. Monica H will inquire with SNOMED International if there is any possibility to accommodate the group in the program.)
