1. Report from POC
There is a delay in the proof-of-concept (POC) in that issues relating to the representation of NPU in SNOMED CT are still not all resolved, counter to our belief end of 2025. It was agreed to aim for completion of the POC in the fall of 2026, around the time of, but not at, the next SNOMED business meeting. A meeting in Europe will be planned.
There is lack of clarity about roles in the project. A pool of participants was created. See this link. Please provide your availability.
Work on analysis of NPU-LOINC mappability through SNOMED CT has started in two strands of work; 1. finding patterns that can be used in bi-directionally finding corresponding NPU codes and LOINC terms, 2. analysis of closest matching LOINC terms for finding issues in NPU element mapping.
Gunnar presented analysis of the fully specified terms (see presentation, to be linked). Suggested wording of FSN for “System(spec.)”. A language reference set for NPU terms can be added for allowing NPU-specific terms to SNOMED CT concepts. Presentation here
The need for training of NPU project participants in use of Snap2SNOMED was raised. keng-ling.wallin@socialstyrelsen.se
Currently, the short definition is the SNOMED CT preferred term for the NPU SNOMED CT concepts. The lack of more clinician- and patient-friendly preferred terms (kortnavn, trivialnamn, …) in English is to be discussed at the upcoming NPU Steering Committee meeting.
