MAG agenda and pre-reading for the Vienna SNOMED Business Meetings April 2026

Hello Modeling Advisory Group

The April Business Meeting in Vienna will be held at the Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere hotel. If you have not registered please see https://www.snomed.org/business-meetings. Online attendance does not require registration. For those attending in person, please do arrange travel and accommodation now, if you have not already.

Speaking of which, it would be great if members would do some pre-conference reading, and work out comments and questions ahead of the meeting so that we don’t have to spend too much time reviewing the background to these topics. Specifically:

  1. Extensions extending the Machine Readable Concept Model. There is a choice to be made here between extensions providing MRCM rules with different refset SCTIDs from the International Edition, or overriding and extending the International MRCM using the same refsets.   2. Module Dependency Reference Set Recommendations. Preview presentation here and have a play with Alejandro’s MDRS visualization tool here: https://ihtsdo.github.io/sct-implementation-demonstrator/#/mdrs-viewer

  3. Have a think about Quality Assurance and the different ways in which we measure quality - KPIs, structural/validation testing, and clinical accuracy for example.

  4. We’ll also be having a discussion about the Drug Model, so members may wish to review in particular the National Drug Model and perhaps browse the recent work of the Drugs Extension User Group and also their forum pages.

Looking forward to seeing those of you who can make it in person, but also members can consider attending remotely, to save on time and cost.

Booking Travel for the October Business Meetings in Sydney

Dear Modeling Advisory Group,

SNOMED International have approved our Group Travel Request (GTR) budget for the October 2026 Business Meetings and Expo in Sydney - somewhat earlier than in previous years, in anticipation of higher airfare costs. You are therefore encouraged to start looking for flights now, and (this is the tricky part) within the individual budget I’ll email to each of you.

There is some room for negotiation. For instance, if arriving a day earlier works out cheaper overall (even allowing for an extra hotel night), that’s something we can discuss; and if your ticket comes in just over budget, do get in touch and we’ll have a look together.

Please bear in mind, though, that the GTR only covers 3 nights of accommodation and 3 days of per-diem. Arriving early or staying on for the Expo is of course welcome, but those additional nights will need to be funded from other sources.

If the numbers simply don’t work for you this time, please a) let me know that our budget was insufficient and, in any event (given the personal demands of long distance travel), do also consider if you’d prefer to attend the meetings remotely. Although this last option may incompatible with a good nights sleep.
