In Sweden, as elsewhere, ICD-11 is now being rolled out, and the region where I work is planning how to support ICD-11 reporting by January 2028. Today, ICD-10 is entered in the documentation system (by doctors or coders), and this is an opportunity to switch to SNOMED CT, and then map to ICD-11 for reporting and reimbursement, etc.
Where can I find information on how to support this technically? What is the status of the map SNOMED CT to ICD-11? Or is the recommendation to classify ICD-11 manually? How have others done?
Great to see Sweden exploring this - capturing granular clinical data in SNOMED CT and mapping to ICD-11 for reporting is a key focus area for many member countries.
SNOMED International remains fully supportive of a SNOMED CT to ICD-11 MMS map. As you know SNOMED International and our members are doing everything we can to work with the World Health Organisation to enable the creation of this map. We are hopeful for a path forward that meets member needs and welcome other countries in the forum to share their current strategies.
