Hi all,

There has been some discussion on the meaning of two types of procedure concepts with the following meanings being proposed:

- management (procedure) - The clinical management of . This would have a focus on clinical decision making such as making adjustments to the treatment and managing strategies for a disease.
- care management (procedure) - The coordination of the care process for . It aligns with a structured framework encompassing the cycle of assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and monitoring/evaluation.

How would nurses interpret the meaning of these types of concepts?

To aid your discussion here are examples these two types of procedure concepts:

- 386509000 |Airway management (procedure)|
- 697979005 |Airway care management (procedure)|.

Please add your comments here.

Thank you,

Cathy

Thanks all,

In summarising the February call discussion (from the recording/discussion log) using the example provided in the topic post, the response provided by the group was:

- Airway management covers the clinical establishment and direct management of airway patency, including the clinical decisions required to maintain it.
- Airway care management refers to the ongoing, coordinated care of an established airway, focusing on routine maintenance, monitoring, and care processes rather than airway intervention itself.

These align with

- Management → clinical maintenance decisions
- Care management → organised, ongoing care activities
